Namibia, a land with vast open spaces, beautiful scenery, wildlife, tribes and much more. The spectacular red sand
dunes of the Namib Naukluft offer one of the most beautifull sights I have ever seen. This truly is an
amazing destination. I spent two weeks in Namibia in September/October 2004 after about a week travelling up north from
Cape Town (South Africa).
We entered Namibia at Rietfontein, on the eastern border with South Africa. The first stop was the Fish River Canyon, the second biggest canyon after the Grand Canyon. 
After spending two nights in Hobas, just north of the Fish River Canyon we drive to Sesriem. Located in the Namib Naukluft
National Park. This is one of the largest National Parks in Africa, protecting one of the oldest deserts in the world.
This place has the highest sand dunes in the world. As I have mentioned before, this is one of the most beautifull sights in the world. Seeing the sun rise over the
red dunes is just an experience not to be missed.
In the afternoon we visit Sossusvlei, I know this is getting boring, but this is a spectacular place.
Next stop is Swakopmund, an old German town on the Atlantic coast. The place for some adrenaline shots. I went sandboarding. Going down sanddunes with speeds reaching up to 80 kph. The hard part was getting up de dunes again. In the afternoon I let the engine of my quad do the work. Riding on quads through the sand dunes is a great way to relax. From the coast we went further north. Visiting the seal colony at Cape Cross, before heading to Spitzkoppe and Palmwag. A visit to the Himba, a tribe in the northwest of the country. From Opuwo we went to the Ruacana waterfalls on the Angolan border, only to find that no drop of water was to be seen. The Calueque Dam stopped all water from going further. But we did cross the border to Angola, allbeit only for a few minutes. One of the other hightlights of this trip was visiting Etosha National Park. A vast variety of wildlife can be seen here, Lions, Elephant, Giraffe, Springbok, Gemsbok, Zebra and many more. The waterhole at Okaukuejo offered one of the best views. But during the gamedrives we also saw lots of wildlife. All good things must come to an end. From Etosha we drove to the capital Windhoek before flying home. I can highly recommend visiting Namibia.
